Laddie Ray Melvin: News

What? - April 7, 2007

I just read that the manager of the Grand Old Oprey doesn't want people with gray hair on his stage or in his audience. Seems to sum up where country music is at these days, don't it?

Mt. Hood Huckleberry Festival - April 1, 2007

I have just found out that I will be perfoming at the Mt. Hood Hucleberry Festival in August at Mt. Hood Village near Brightwood, Oregon.

The Huckleberry festival features singer songwriters, and has for many years. The dates are August 24th, 25th and 26th.

I'll let you know when my performance times have been confirmed.

For more info about the festival, you can email "Michael P. Jones/Nita Kreuzer" .

And remember that I will be at The Dalles, Oregon playing the Acoustic Concert Series at the Civic Auditorium May 17th with Kate Powers and Steve Einhorn. Get your tickets early.

While walking - March 17, 2007

On a walk last week, I realized that buying individual songs online--something I'm not really opposed to--is like tearing a page out of a novel and concluding that one particular page represents all the author might have wanted you to know or understand about the story.

I understand digital distribution as a marketing tool for musicians, but like so much information age technology that's all it seems to be about, another way to sell something, but not all of something that is as whole worthwhile.

I certainly don't always like every tune on a particular CD, but if the artist's work is important to me I want the whole story not just a fragment, a passing thought.

It can be fun to make compilations, program your own pod, so to speak, and cover a lot of musical ground at a quicker pace. But when I walk, I like to take my time, and mosey along at a deliberate pace.

And thanks to Dan D. for the help with this website and for your humor and wisdom.

What's Happenin' - January 28, 2007

A month into the new year, and I'm beginning to put some shows together for 07, so if you have a minute check out the calendar.

It is so great to have my new CD, In The Aftermath, available. If you are interested in that project, you can find it and my first CD, Rocky Ground, for sale as you probably already know at cdbaby.com.

I'm very excited about being included in the Acoustic Concert Series at The Dalles, Oregon in May. This is an intimate venue that allows the audience to really focus on the work being presented. It is a great place to play.

As you see, I'm still working on this website, and today I'm trying to get the music sample page working correctly. Okay, okay, I'm not a high-tech guy.

I've sent a few copies of In The Aftermath out for review, but have no way of knowing if a complete unknown will gather any reviews, good or bad. There is a nice review on my cdbaby site written by Jim Keenan you might want to read if you have a minute.

In The Aftermath - December 12, 2006

My new CD In the Aftermath is now available! It is listed at cdbaby.com along with my first CD titled Rocky Ground.
